At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Transport Department of the Public Works Department notified that as a result of the Motor Lorry Regulations Amendment No. I, provision had been made for the payment of licensee fees in respect to heavy vehicles by quarterly amounts, the license to expire at the end of curb quarter paid for. The attention of the Council was also drawn to the regulation governing vehicles of .'1 nr more axles which were allowed 10 load to a gross weight of 15 tons on firstclass roads. Mention was also made of axle loads for the protection of the roads.
Writing in regard to traffic signs, the Main Highways Board intimaicil that their proposal for the supply of these signs to local bodies under the group system had not met with sufficient support to warrant continuing with tin* proposal and local bodies would now have to make their own arrangements lAr the supply of such signs. The Precision Engineering Co,, wrote offering to supply name plates for streets, etc., at 3/(i for six letters (stamped similar to the ear registration plates), with lid lor everv additional Idler.
The above correspondence was ‘received. MOTOR DRIVERS’ LICENSE'S. The Municipal A ssoeia iion’s secretary wrote staling that the executive committee at its lasi meeting considered the following resolution passed at the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerks’ annual conference: “That with a view to facilitating the inspection of motor drivers' licenses l>\ irnllie inspectors and also in the interests of the motor driving public, local bodies be asked to adopt a uniform colour system for motor drivers’ licenses, such colour to conform with the colour of the .number plates each year.
