DRINKING IN DANCE HALLS
LITTLE IN FOXTON. MOSTLY DONE TN CARS. At lasi night's Borough Council meeting a circular letter was read from the International Order of Good Templars with regard to the growing- evil arising from drinkingin dance halls, and asking- the Council to keep a strict snpervi-s-.ii,n over hall leases with a view lo having the menace abated. Cr. Rajigihcuea said the Society tad not gone Car enough. It should also have dealt with drinking- in motor ear-* outside dance halls. The Town /Clerk said if the Police Offences Act was amended to make the consumption of liquor in ears in a public place in the vicinity of dance halls illegal it would do a lot of good.
The Mayor said there was not lime to complain about- locally.
Cr. Rand: Conditions are not as good just outside of Foxton. Cr. Barron recommended forwarding a letter suggesting an amendment to the Act on the lines outlined by the Town Clerk, lo the Justice Department. Cr. R. E. Cowley said there was no drinking at local dance halls. The letter was received and it was decided that a letter he written tr, the Minister of -lustice suggesting that tin* Public Offences Act. be amended to prohibit the consumption of intoxicating liquor in curs or other vehicles in the vicinity of dance halls, etc.
