FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
REVIEW OF YEAR'S ACTIVITIES. The annual report, in connection with the Foxton Horticultural Society is as follows: — “There were six committee meetings of (lie Society held during the year, with an average attendance of fourteen members at each meeting; two special general meetings and two sub.-commitfee meetings. Two shows were held during the year, viz., the bulb show, September 12th, 102 ft, and summer show on November 21 sf, 1020. The bulb show was not the success that we hoped for owing to it clashing with the Rongoten and Levin bulb shows, but our summer show was an unqualified success, although expenses wove heavy on account of judges fees and entertaining visitors, ns the occasion was the 21sf anniversary „f the Society. It: was decided ata special general meeting to obtain a perpetual trophy for the Society, to he c-nllod tin- Foxton Horticultural Association perpetual trophy. The trophy was duly procured from Mrs. Pnrkos at a cost of £9 2,/fi and donations of £8 10/- have been collected from niemhers-towards cost; of same, leaving a balance of 12/0 vet to ho collected. The secretary prodnred five cases and locks, hinges and hasps and made live boxes for storing the Society’s vases, etc., so that, all small articles arc now under 1 oelk and key. “The Society’s property consists of 5i dozen ("tin. Jasper vases, -li dozen Jin. Jasper vases, 1 dozen decorative vases, IGA dozen rose tubes, HU dozen tin vases, 27 terms, .1 stool, 1H rose stands, 7 hoards, 10 small tables, 10 large tables, 5 tablecloths, wire netting, standards, etc. The hooks have been audited by Mr. D. R. Ogilvy, and found correct. The balancesheet shows a credit pnlanee at the Bank of N.%. of £2 7/5 and with liabilities of £l7 1-1/0. The excess of assets over liabilities is £4v 10/1 and the Roi-ioty'* property is insured with the Alliance Assurance Co. for £SO.
“Mr. Trueman has offered a points prize of 7/0 for section B In 10:10 bulb show, and Afr. R. Mason, of Bulls, has promised 1 dozen carnations for next summer show, to he allotted as the committee thinks best. Air. AVeightman lias promised £l. 1/- worth of bulbs for 1010 spring show as points prize for nnv section selected by the coin mittee and AL. Troup one pound for a children's section for summer show for aquilegias to he grown from seed.
“I wish tp express my thanks to members of the committee and class stewards of both shows far their splendid efforts and aid and also the Rev. W. H. Nicholas and Rev. \Y. H.
