HEMP MARKET

MAY GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, low, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of May have been issued by the 'Department of Agriculture as follows: — Ports G.F. H.F. L.F. C. Auckland 172 789 -153 90 Wellington 76 461) 376 142 Foxton 3!) 611 100 42 Picton 20 95 32 .13 Dunedin 31 220 Bluff Seventy-eight bales at Auckland, 59 at Wellington, 42 at Foxton, four at Dunedin, and 25 at the Bluff were rejected. Two bales at Auckland, three at Wellington, and one at the Bluff were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was ns follows, the number for the eqrresonding- period of last year aiming given in parenthesis:— Good fair 344 (360), high fair 2275 (2846), low fair 3 253 (2240), common 537 (446), rejected 208 '(148), condemned 6 (d), a total of 4623 bales as against 6044 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 1421 hales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1584, Wellington 1116, Foxton 834, Pieton 106, Dunedin 255, Bluff 6(iS. The following shows the. detailed particulars of the tow graded:—

Ports Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 43 277 48 Wellington 7 140 25 Foxton S 162 6 Picton 16 12 Bluff

Thirty bales at Auckland, 21 at Wellington and eight at Foxton were condemned.

The following shows the number of bales in each grade, Lite number for the corresponding- period of last year being- given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 74 (18S), 2nd grade 765 (1.239), 3rd grade 257 (495), condemned 59 (39), a total of 1155 bales as against 1961 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 806 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —-.Auckland 398, Wellington 193, Foxton, 184, Picton 28, Bluff 352. Stripper Slips:— Twenty-two bales at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade and 62 were graded 3rd grade. The total number graded was 84 bales as against 84 bales graded the same period last roar. There were no stripper low graded for the month of Mav.
