NEW ZEALAND FORCES.
COMMODORE BLAKE'S TRIBUTE. AUCKLAND, June 4. “I have under me 50 per cent of men born and bred in New Zealand, and I. have no hesitation in saying that I never want better men under my command,” said Commodore Geoffrey. Blake yesterday, when responding on behalf of the Army and Navy at the King’s Empire Veterans’ luncheon. “They are magnificent,” he said. Commodore Blake went on to say that he had them with him in Samoa under conditions just as trying as on active service. They were scorched by tropical rains, marching through dense bush, with little to show for their efforts, hut they entno back cheerful and determined next day to start again.
