A curious photograph was exhibited at the Horowhenua Power Board meeting on Tuesday, by the engineer (Mr. J. A. Smith). It showed a. starling hanging by its feet from a line just outside the Levin sub-station. The bird was dead when found in that position, and the assumption is that, after alighting on the wire it engaged in a fight with another bird, on the next wire, and so established a circuit, with electrocution as the result. In his monthly report the engineer referred to an interruption which occurred at 5.40 p.m. on April 25th, on the Levin-Pae-kakariki line. The fault was located on the Rangiuru Beach line, which was isolated. It was found that a bittern had flown into the 11,000 volt line and clashed two wires together, which burned them through.

If sufficient fares are offering, Hart’s char-a-banc will run to Palmerston North on Wednesday next for the England v. Manawhenua rugby match. Particulars are advertised.
