THE WANGANUI MURDER
FUNERAL SERVICE. ‘Wanganui, May 11. The funeral of the victim was hold this afternoon, interment taking place at Aramoho cemetery Throughout the journey, which was modi' via Sergeant street, Ingestre street, Victoria avenue, Dublin street and Somme Parade, groups of people had collected awaiting the passing of the cortege. At the graveside about 500 people were in attendance and the sympathy for the bereaved family was very evident'. The Rev. W. S. King (Presbyterian) conducted the burial service.
KNIFE FOUND. The search for the weapon with which the deed was committed, ended at 3 n.m. on Saturday when a black,handled chef’s knife on which stains, believed to be those of human blood, was discovered in a cattle-slop in the yards of the Wanganui Sash and Door Company facing Tanpo Quay. The knife tapers from 11 inches at its greatest width to a sharp point ami is particularly keen and the whole blade is six inches long. Manley has a complete set of culinary instruments and the knife is believed to lie i»nt* of the sol. The search for the instrument was conducted by Chief Detective Walsh and Se-ior-Sergeant McLean and with the finding of the weapon the police proceedings in the matter ended until the Court opened on Saturday morning. Manley appeared at the Court, on Saturday charged with the murder of Gladys Cromarty, and was remanded until Alay 17th.
