FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the aImve committee was held lasi night. Present: Messrs J. K. IToriiblow (Chairman), R. Rnngilienea (lion, secretary), C. M. Howell, (i. P. .Smith, At. E. Perreau, Jno. Ross, R. Mayer, AhidCnrd, and P. Robinson. iC'orrespondenoo was read and dealt with as follows:
From the Education Board, advising that Ihe Department lias approved of a £1 for £1 subsidy amounfing to £35 for typewriters, duplicator and sewing machines for secondary department.—ll was explained that the money upon which the subsidy was granted was raised by a school gala day. A further £11) was required to complete the pur-
chases and it was decided to draw i.n the picnic fund for this amoiinl. So far onlv Ihe duplicator had come lo hand. The Board wrote continuing the appointment of Mr Robbie, M.A., as assistant in the secondary department.
Regret was expressed that several parents wen l sending their children lo the Palmerston North Technical School for instruction in subjects which were now provided for
rally. The need for a. female lonelier in the secondary department v. as a Iso si ressed.
.Mr P. W. Cnple wrote offering his services as piano-tuner.—Rc-ierred to the headmaster. 11 was decided to thank the N.Z. Rugby Union per the Ilorowliemia Rugby Distriei Ooimeil, for gifts .<l* tool balls lo file school and .sideschool. Mr P. Robinson asked whether any ii.dith-afion had been received re the granting- of a school holiday an the 23th inst. on the occasion of the M.anawbeimia- English football match at Palmerston. Me staleed that special accommodation and ieduced admission fees would obtain for schools. —Action deferred until ollieial intimation is received. Ii was also decided that Mr Robinson confer with the Headmaster ie closing school 10-morrow afternoon in time for the pupils to witness the Pakeha-AJaori match to he plated on Easton Park.
.Messrs Hewell amp Smith reported upon a number of repairs that needed attention and they were given authority to have same alleuded to. In other respects they icported Ihat everything was salisfaetorv.
Messrs Robinson and Perreau v. ere appointed a sub-committee to submit, an estimate for laving down a basket hall area and extending l he tennis court, area.
Accounts amounting to £ls 17/wore passed for payment. Mr. Perreau slated that as there nas no intention to close the Beach Children's Home, was it the Oommiitee's intention lo continue the Beach School as a side school or an independent school, The Chairman said the Board had previously asked for an expression of opinion from the Committee hut as it was doubtful whether Ihe Children's Home would lie permanent, it was not thought advisable b) recommend a separate school.
It was decided to defer' further discussion until next meeting. Messrs Smith and He well, were re-appointed visitors for the month.
