ACCIDENT ON WHIROKINO ROAD.

OAK'S IX <toVFRNMENT DRAIN. A oar driven by Mr. 11. Hartley, ill’ Manawatn Heads, left the road at Whirokino about 9 o’clock lasi evening; and skidded into the Government Drain. The party was returning to Foxtun after having a(tended a wedding at llokio and when proceeding along the highway parallel to the (.iovermnenl Drain .Mr. Hartley saw a lorry pulled up on the road which gave him very little room to pass between the vehicle and the drain, fit attempting to negotiate a liassage the car skidded and went into the drain, crashing into another car already in the water, which had been responsible for the driver of the lorry pulling up. The occupants of Air. Hartley's oar had a miraculous escape from serious injury and it is understood tin' occupants ol the other ear, which belongs to Wellington were also fortunate in this respect.
