Air. M. Laird, Superintendent of the Telegraph Department at Sydney, who is. retiring after 52 year’s service, predicts that there will he no telegraph at all at the end of llie next 50 years, because it will be superseded by telephone and wireless.
An elderly man, W. H. Morris, was found dead in bed in bis whare at Palmerston .North on Sunday morning. Deceased lived in portion of a coal-yard in Lyndliurst Street. He was apparently in good health when be retired on Saturday evening. A medical certificate to the effect that death was due to natural causes has been given.
In briefly extending a welcome on behalf of the congregation U> Dr. Gibb at the local Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Air Nicholas remarked that the late Rev. Jas. Duncan before Settling in .Foxton eighty-live years ago, had ministered to a Lew .Presbyterian families in Wellington, who had subsequently founded St. John’s Church, over which Dr. Gibb had subsequently ministered with marked success, for many years. After the services Dr. Gibb was met by many who bad sat under his ministry both at First Church, Dunedin, and St. John’s, Wellington.
