AEROPLANES VISIT FOXTON.
FOUR. MACHINES ARRIVES AT THE BEACH. Four aeroplanes arrived at Foxton Beach this morning from Hastings, where they had been participating in the aero pageant. The machines were occupied as follows : Captain Mercer and Mr R. S. Taylor (Christchurch). Captain and Mrs Stedruan (Wellington). Miss E. Bennett and Mr F. Dix, (Marlborough Aero Club, Blenheim).
Miss A. Clifford (Christchurch) and Mrs W. Richmond (Hastings). In conversation with our representative, Captaiu Mercer said the trip, which was accomplished in ideal weather, was done in an hour and a-half. Fine weather was experienced until Eoxton was reached, when rain was encountered. All machines made excellent landings. The ’planes left again after the aviators had lunched at Whyte’s Hotel, for Ilawera, a hundred mile trip, and will leave for Auckland to-morrow. CRASH AT PORIRUA. PILOT SUCCUMBS. Descending from a short llight over the southern reaches of Porirua Harbour yesterday morning a Aiouoeoupe aeroplane, piloted by Mr. Morris John Cameron, manager of 0.0. Motors, Lower Hutt, crashed on the tidal fiat near the Titahi Bay Road. Air. Cameron received i amble injuries through being crushed by the engine, which was forced back upon him as he sat strapped in the cockpit. He was taken by the Free Ambulance to the Wellington Hospital, where he died at 5.30 last evening. Over 30 people witnessed the crash from a sandy stretch from which the ’plane took off and, after circling over their heads, it struck the ground only about 50 yards from where thev stood.
