AERO PAGEANT.

AT HASTINGS. Hastings, April 5. The Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club was favoured with ideal weather on Saturday for the aerial pageant at Hastings. Seventeen machines competed, and pilots, including two women, participated from various parts of 'the Dominion. Some 3000 people assembled to witness the programme, which included landing and bombing competitions, and displays of aerobatics, besides races and formation flying. Sir Andrew Russell and the Alayor (Air. G. F. Roach) welcomed the Hon. .1. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, and the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, Major-General Young, and WingCommander R. Dalton. 'Sir Andrew Russell suggested that the Minister should devote part- of the reductions made on the land forces to promoting aviation. He also advocated the establishment of air ports by eivil authorities.

Mr. Coates supported Sir Andrew Russell’s suggestion, but the Minister, while admitting the claims of the air service, declined to commit himself, saying an investigation must first be made.
