TOWN HALL.
Thrilling adventure, exotic T<
inanee, picturesque scenes and characters, and a Stirling story of |,,ve and revolt arc all found in one picture, Universal's gripping production, "The Foreign Legion,” at. 111,. Town Hall on Saturday. Not
lor a long time has an audience here seen a. picture that equals ••The Foreign Legion - ' in any oi the above features. None will soon forget the horror of the iron discipline, the fateful situations into which the hero is thrown or the i emarkahie character which causes his downfall —a ravishing beaulyId,mile, hot-blooded mid deadly. Two of the sequences remain in the mind especially because ol their realism and beauty. One of them is the sandstorm on the desert, catching the soldiers ol the
“Foreign Legion” unawares. The other is the trial scene in the courtroom. For these two sequences alone, the pielure is worth going io see. Norman Kerry and Lewis Slone, two of the best known ac(oi's on the screen, undoubtedly do the finest work of their long and successful careers in the starring roles. Kerry ns Diehard, the. unfortunate victim of circumstances,
and Slone as his unknown father, I'oloiiei Deslinn, have opportunities i'or acting, that rarely come in other pictures. Needless to say, both of these skillful players make l lie most of them. The supporting i ast is also good. Mary Nolan as the unprincipled blonde and June Marlowe as the girl sweetheart; appear to great advantage. Miss Nolan, a former follies beauty, received her screen training in Lermany, which partially explains her success in this exotic role, t’raulord Kent and Walter Perry also do good work. Thousands of persons have read “The lied Mirage," by I. A. D. Wvlie, from which "lhe Foreign Legion” was adapted. Iho lull llavour of the hook has been retained in the film version.
When Fox officials decided to promote It ex Bell Ironi "westerns lo regular leads they gave him a principal role in “Joy Street,” as a reward. for his past work. Bell's characterization of the "jazz boy” is one of the many high spots of this remarkable and daring picture of voiiih, which is to tie shown at the Town Hall on Monday. Usual prices.
