AMALGAMATION OF RABBIT BOARD.

NOT FAVOURED BY MANAWATU.

A circular letter was received li-om the secretary of the North Island Rabbit Board’s Association, intimating that at the last conference, a. discussion took place on the point of whether it would be possible to cheapen the cost of Rabbit (Control and the executive -was asked to get information as to the working of some of the larger Boards and send it out to alt Boards so that the matter could be discussed bv individual hoards and the delegates to the next conference would then be able to express the .opinion of the Boards. The informaton was enclosed and read by the secretary. Trustee F. C. Raikes (delegate) said tfie chief business of the next conference would lie the consideration of amalgamation of Rabbit Boards in certain areas, the taking in by Boards of areas outside their boundaries and the consideration of the noxious weeds question. Mr. Grant said an amalgamation of Rabbit Boards might be a means of overcoming some of the anomalies existing at present in conneci ion with the declaration of noxious weeds and their eradication. Something certainly was wrong when one county declared a growth a noxious weed and another county did not and allowed it to pollute the countryside. Amalgamation might get. the Boards somewhere.

Members, however, did not favour an amalgamation with any oilier Rabbit Board.

Trustee Raikes sqid that a safeguard against any possible inclusion iii an amalgamation with other beards would be for the Aianawatu Rabbit Board to take up the matter of noxious weeds control. It might lie a means of the Board retaining its individualitv.

The chairman said at. the end of I In l present year Board membership would be curtailed, which he strongly opposed.

Mr. Grant: There is nothing to be gained ’by a curtailment. The matter will be further discussed at a later date.
