TIPS FOR POULTRY FARMERS.

Thi“ ground evidently plays an important part in poultry raising as well as stock for, according to one member of the Manawatu Egg Producers’ Association, which recently met in Buxton, old _ played out ground had a very detrimental effect on the eggs. The eggs from bens kept on such a ground were pale and washy in colour and the shells very poor, evidencing lack of vitality and would go bad in a week whereas eggs from fowls runniug on fresh ground would keep for six months and were of good quality and excellent size as a general rule. A good mineral mixture was one of the best things to give fowls for egg production, said Mr. R. D. Whyte, of Palmerston North, at the meeting in Eoxton of the Manawatu Egg Producers’ Association. It gave substance to the yolk, quality to the albumen and played the greatest part in the quality of the i gg. The mineral mixture had the support of the “Feathered World,” a poultry magazine published in England, which had the backing of Edinburgh College and research bodies in England and was a publication no poultry farmer should be without! When the rain comes, the chiekens grow, said Mr. Whyte, and if on want to help your stock along get the garden hose and flood your pens with water now and again during the dry spells. Another good tip was to throw a handful of salt an to the ground before turning the hose. It was astonishing to find out how much substance the fowls picked up after the ground had been so flooded.
