Eight stalks of lily aratum carrying hundreds of blooms are growing in the garden of Mrs. G. float ten, of Elgin (South Canterbury). The smallest stalk holds 100 blooms, and several of the others hold 2-50 each. They make a magnificent display, the multibloomed heads standing over 7ft. above the ground.
Mr. Holland, Reform M.P., for Christ c hurch North, assured the people of Kaikntira the other evening that the South Island Main Trunk Railway would be completed, no matter what party was in power. He said he had conferred with his leader, and had boon informed that this would 1)0 so.
An unusual sight witnessed the other evening at the Invercargill railway station was that of two tracks painted white, which were coupled to the rear of the northbound express (says the Southland Times). Inquiries elicited the information that they contained in all 500 sacks of Stewart Island ovssters, 150 of which were destined for the North Island.
The Midnight Revue, organised by Lady Alexandra Metcalfe and Lady Cunliffe-Owon, at the London Pavilion, realised £4200 net for the Save the Children Fund.
