MOTOR MECHANIC FATALLY BURNED.

TRAPPED IN GARAGE PIT. Wanganui Alareh 22. \\(ith tci'i'iibile burns about the head and the upper part of his body, Frederick Arthur Trough ton, aged 25, married, was admitted to Wanganui hospital about nine o’clock on Saturday morning and died early this morning. Deceased, the only son of Air. and Airs. F. Trougliton, of Wellington, was a mechanic in the garage of 10. C. Brownie and Co., Wanganui, and was occupied in draining petrol from the tank of a car prior to undertaking repair work, when he became enveloped in flames, as (be result of the petrol*igiiiling. Being in the pit and under the car, deceased managed to scramble out only with difficulty, with the upper part of his body a mass of llames, which were extinguished by his fellow-workers, but not before the unfortunate man had suffered terrible injuries. Deceased leaves a widow and one child. Dr. Nelson, medical superintendent at the hospital, said deceased’s explanation of the accident, to witness was that while in the pit he took, the opportunity to fill his automatic match lighter with benzine. While doing so he more or less unconsciously turned on the spark of the lighter and immediately started the fire. A verdist of accidental death was returned.
