MAIN HIGHWAY.
WANGAEHU TO BULLS
DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE AND RANGITIKEI COUNTY OOUNCIL,
A letter to the Wanganui and District Development League from the Rangitikei County Council was read at Thursday’s meeting of the former body, stating that they hoped before long to be able to effect further improvements to the main highways within the county. The letter was a reply to one sent- by the League urging that an improvement he made to the WangaelmBulJs section of the highway.
Mr. J. Morrison considered that the reply from the Council was too vague. Wanganui people were contributing to that road through the benzine and tyre Lax, and it should be improved. There was no county in New Zealand that treated its roads with greater contempt than Rangitikei. At one time the Rangitikei County 'Council was one of the best in New Zealand; now it was one of the biggest “duds.” There was practically no tar-sealing done in that county. Mr. J. Coull mentioned that the Wangaohu Hill was shocking, but Jdiat was in the 'Wanganui County.
Mr. Morrison stated that that part of the road would be tarseajled next summer. He moved that the Development League and the Automobile Association form a deputation, to wait upon the Rangitikei County (Council at their next meeting. This was agreed to.
Mr. Morrison said that if the County failed to do the work, it was quite probable that the Highways Board would do it and charge it to the County. That had occurred before with different counties.
