FOXTON-RANGIOTU ROAD.

SURFACING REQUIRED. MANAWATU COUNTY ACTIVE. For some months past the Manawatu County 'Cbune.il has been urging on the Main Highways Board the necessity for surfacing the recently constructed highway from Foxton to Rangiotu, but up to the present no definite action lias been shown by the board towards carrying out the work. The matter was the subject of a long discussion in committee at Tuesday’s meeting of the council when members took the stand that the maintenance costs on these newly constructed roads were likely to prove, a serious drain on the county revenue. After a thorough investigation of the financing it would be necessary for the council to undertake in the event of the work being authorised, (he following resolution was carried unanimously on the motion of Crs. Perrelf and Barber: “That the council views with alarm the high cost of maintenance of the newly constructed Foxton-Himatangi and Ilimataiigi - Rangiotu highways which threatens to become an overhearing burden on the revenue of the council, and that the Main Highways Board he again approai bed urging the necessity of immediate action being taken' to surface these roads.”
