MANAWATU RABBIT BOARD
Kurt her business transacted at Thursday’s meeting <> t the Alanawatu Rabbit Board was as follows : ITtRRESI’ONiDENCE. A letter was received from Mr. M. H. llodge, of Palmerston North, in reference to postal notes which went astray after having been posted to the secretary. —The secretary reported that he had no trace of having received any communication previously from Mrs. Hodge. The letter was received. p. Lux Lord, of Roiigotea, also wrote in reference to his account stating that he had not received any previous notice. —The secretary said the trouble had evidently occurred through a change in ownership of the property which had not been notified. Tilt* Inspector said tin* matter imd now been sntisfaetorilv lixed up. FORESTRY DEPARTMENT PROPERTY CLEAR.
The Inspector reported that since last meeting lie had inspected the Forestry Department's property along the coast line and found it in good order. II was practically free from rabbits and there was clover on the area over a person’s boot tops. Mr. Mclvelvie said that there were a few rabbits on the property down by tin* lakes, lie did not think, rabbits would live on most of tile properly now as il was all overgrown.
Thu Inspector said the Department’s trees were growing well. Posts indicated the age of different areas and they were all making good progress. A few hares were to he seen on the property, hut these were not increasing to any extent.
Mr. .Mclvelvie said the trees were making excellent progress on the sandhills, hut those on the Hats were not showing the same growth.
The chairman said that was evidently due to there being too niuoli v. a ter on Ihe Hats.
RAXGITIKEI RIVER BED. The Inspector reported that the trapper had linishcd his work of Lapping on the Raugilikei River bed land. The work had cost the Board £lB for 44 days work. The total number taken off the area was -!l(i pairs and he had averaged 'I 1-3 pair per day. The Inspector thought it would he advisable, although tin* property was now very clear, to have a poisoning carried out in the river lied. Mr. (iroome (the trapper) had experienced unite good kills during February previously. Trustee F. I,’aikes suggested that the Board should forward the account incurred in the rabbit destruction work to the Government with the request llmt they pay half the cost as the land belonged to them.
Trustee Gloyii said the clean-up of the area was llie lies! that it had ever had.
The Truste-es expressed their snlislaeliou with tho work carried out and eonsideied il was cheaply done and well worth while. Il was decided to forward tHe account on to the Government with a request for payment.
STRICT ADHESION TO IX STR l ACTIONS URGED.
In moving; the adoption of t. lk? report of the Inspector, Trustee \V. E. Barber said that it was time the Inspector concentrated on propert v owners whose properties were still rabbi I- in lest ed. It was time the issue was forced in some cases. EXTENSION OF BOI’XDAK’IFS Trustee W. K. Barber said that :l was time the Board received some word from the settlers in the FTorowhenita settlers in regard to the proposed extension of the Board's boundary.
Trustee (irammar said it would be advisable to have any alterations made before the new year was commenced. The secretary was directed to ascertain from the settlers what >leps had been taken in the matter. GENERAL. The secretary was given authority to withdraw a further .QUO from the Post Ollice Savings Bank account. reducing the amount on deposit to £323. Trustee F. C. Rallies was deI ill ed to attend the executive meeting of the Rabbits Boards’ Association to be held at Building.
