TRAINING FARM ESCAPEES
WILD GABBER OF A YOUNG PAIR. Two 'boys, each aged 15, who broke away from the Training Fanil at Weraroa on the evening- of February 7th, and were arrested at Marton on the morning of the 10th, were before the Magistrate (Mr. ,T. L. Stout) in the Children’s Court at Levin on Thursday. These infant desperadoes were responsible for quite a lot of trouble during their few days at large; and the prevalence of such escapades lately called His Worship to issue a warning that inmates of the Farm who commit repeated offences will be dealt with more severely than has been the custom in the past. Making their way to Shannon, the two lads each purloined a bicycle, these serving them until they reached Tokoliiaru, where they commandeered a ear, proceeding in it to Marton and perpetrating mischief en route. Each appeared on charges of theft of provisions, etc., at Shannon, conversion of two bicycles at the same place, conversion of a ear at Tokomaru, breakup and entering a motor garage by night at Bunnyfborpe with intent to commit a <rime therein, committing mischief at Feilding by damaging a lock and clip valued at 10/-, and mischief at Marton by wilfully damaging two petrol bowsers to the value of £3. They were convicted •:d ordered to he returned to the Training Farm. The Magistrate intimated that farmers must be protected from depredations; and in future eases of boys breaking avyay a second time from the Farm and committing offences, they would be sent to the Borstal institution.
