WOMAN FATALLY BURNED
Christchurch, February 21. Catching lire and exploding, a petrol ran set fire to straw in a shed at the rear of 122 Montreal Street al 8.10 a..in. to-dav, and Mrs. Marjorie Willett Mather, wife of .Mr. Charles P. Mather, occupy in" the upstairs (lat at the premises, was severely burned, her clothing taking lire. The woman’s eondiion gradually became worse, and she died at 8.30 to-night. Mrs. Mather was looking for fuel n Ihe shed, and struck a match, which ignited some petrol leaking from the can. Hearing the screams of the victim, Miss M. M. Kent, who has a Hat on the ground, floor, rushed to the scene with rugs which she dragged from a clothes line, and maimged to smother the (lames by pull Mrs. Mather on the grass. Mrs. Mather was attended by doctors before being taken to St. deorge’s Hospital. The shed was only slightly damaged, the tire brigade arriving soon after.
