FIGHTING CANCER SCOURGE IN NEW ZEALAND.

APPEAL BY DOCTORS. Christchurch, Last Night. Without the aid of the lay public doctors can do little and without the help of the doctors the public can do nothing in the light against cancer, said Sir Louis Barnett, speaking on the subject. Together with other delegates at the British Medical Association Conference he emphasised the vajue and success of an early diagnosis and treatment by the knife and radium. He outlined a scheme for establishing a research centre in Dunedin for the Dominion with treatment of cancer patients. Sir Lindo Ferguson showed a him depicting the growth and activity of the disease.

Dr. .J. S. Elliott mentioned the interest of the King in the Empire campaign, contrasting the interest in England with the comparative lack of interest in New Zealand. Surely New Zealand had attained a sufficient state, of civilisation to join in the battle against cancer. The campaign called for great tenacity, patience and spiritual strength. It was a fight against the powers of night and they might yet make investigations into the cause of life itself. Money given would be so used as to give satisfaction to the donors for the rest of their lives
