SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

There was a large attendance at ,1 In? local baths on Tuesday evening when flic Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club held their first carnival. The event was held in eonjunction with the Swimming Club and was one of a series to he hold throughout the season. The events resulted as follows : 25yds girls under 10: Joan Barron 1. 25yds. boys under 10: L. Rankin. The race for the Ferns resulted in a. win for G. Hirini, R. Ball and Rita Jones. 50yds. race: R. Hirini, G. Hirini, iW- Harrison. ' Egg and spoon race: R. Hirini 1, R. Re a y 2. Cigarette race: A. McCorkiudale. The Club desires to thank the ■public generally for its attendance 'ini all who assisted in making the evening such a success. LOCAL COMPETITORS AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

At tin' Manawatu Centre carnival held in the (Municipal Baths, Palmerston N._, last evening, the local team (W. Harrison, W. and G. Hirini, F. Burns, and It. Ball) won the Flying Squadron event. A'. Harrison (holder of the title) came third in the 100yds. free style championship, being defeated by Palmer (Levin) winner, and Judd (P.N.) second. R. Hirini,was placed third in the blindfold novelty event. Tn the hoys’ 33 1-3 yards event, L. Rankin Bsec. won his heat and S. Bills 9seo. was placed 3rd in his heat. Tn the final, L. Rankin came first. , In the men’s (Hi 2-3 yards handicap, (J. Hirini Tsec., won his heal. (Time 53 3-ssec.). R. Hirini 2sec., won his heal in 51 sec. Tn the semifinals both again annexed first places in their respective heats, (times 52sec. and 48sec.), and in the final R. Hirini (12sec.) look first place. Time 48sec. Won by a touch.
