RECENT FLOOD DOES SOME GOOD.
ASSISTS DRAIN GLEANING OPERATIONS.
A llood is not often regarded i.i (lie light of a benefactor but the iccent llood which inundated the Moutoa and Whim-Lino districts certainly did the .Moutoa Drainage Bonn! a good turn. At last night’s meeting of that body Mr. Gower mentioned that although the .Jnnuaiy llood had done a lot of damage it had also done some good as far as the Board was concerned. I: had greatly assisted the drain cleaning operations.
The chairman said that some of the drains could now be cleaned for half their usual cost as a result of the flood. Mr. Gower said that the lower drains had been in' a bad state witii lily and other weeds prior to the Hood, but .these had practically all disappeared now.
The chairman said the only weed that- had withstood the Hood had been the swangrass, which was very difficult to kill.
