LAST NIGHT’S EARTHQUAKE
The nerves of the populace were edge at about 0.23 o’clock last evening when, houses swayed |, v a severe earthquake. The direction seemed to be east, and west. Fortunately there was no variation of the direction, otherwise considerable damage would probably . have resulted. '’Before the first tremor had ceased another earth movement, this time accompanied by a rumbling noise, was experienced, no serious damage is reported. The earthquake was very severe ,in the Porangahau (Hawke’s Bay) district. . , ■■■■•■!
