NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN TO FLY TO AUSTRALIA.
ATTEMPT AT HINKLER’S

London, February 8,
Flying-Officers H. L. Piper and C. Kay, New Zealand members of llie. R.A.F., who have obtained three months’ leave to visit their homes, have purchased a do Souttor three-seater air taxi of the latest pattern, with 100 miles an hour cruising speed. They have altered it to a two-seater and arc installing an extra petrol tank in place of the third seal, giving the monoplane a 850 miles range. They are hoping- to take off -before dawn on February 9. The first ho]i will be Lyons and thereafter they propose to fly via Naples, Malta Tripoli, Bagdad, Karachi, Rangoon, Koepang and Darwin. If they‘reach Egypt under three days, they will attempt to heal Hinkler’s record to Australia. They do not intend to fly the Tasman, being content to reach Sydney by a ir.
