BOROUGH HORSE GRAFTED FREEDOM FOR LIFE.
Rome time ago the Council decided to pension off - the borough horse for life and he was granted his freedom on ’ Victoria Park. When that was done thoughtless motorist campers were not taken into consideration for at last night’s Borough Council meeting it W as reported that campers were in the habit of leaving the gate open and the animal frequently found his way on to the borough roads. Such Was the nature of a complaint by the road foreman who sought some remedy for the nuisance. Cr Barron said that the horse would fetch £2 10/- as fqwi feed, but the Mayor opposed the laitniui animal ending its days in such an io-nominiqus manner, expressing the tope that Councillors would allow him to live out his „ days m peaceful freedom. Cr Robinson put forward the suggestion that the horse be placed 01 ; Matakarapa, across the nver, where there were thousands of ac- ' over which he could wander. _ This ivas agreed to and the animal will be transferred to Ins neAv -abode at an early date.
