Mr. J. P. Smith, of Napier, was a visitor to Fox ton on Thursday. Air. R. AT. Parkes has returned from a month’s holiday in the north.

Air. and Airs. H. Stephenson, of Ashburton are visitors to Foxtou for the week end.

Air. W. 11. Swanger (Secretary) and Mr. E. R. Hodge (architect) of the Wanganui Education Board paid a visit to Fox-ton yesterday. Miss Russell, who has been on a visit to her sister, Airs. 11. E. Garbett, returned to her home in Gisborne yesterday.

The friends of Air. \V. E. De Ridder, who met with an accident last Thursday, will be pleased to learn that lie lias now almost recovered irom his injuries. The friends of Constable J. V. Bell will regret to learn that he was compelled to enter the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment last AJonday. He is reported to be making good progress towards recovery.

Air. O. Doel, of the teaching staff of the local District High School, has accepted an appointment on the staff of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School and will take up his new duties early in March.

Tiie death occurred at Alata'karapa yesterday of Mrs. John AleGreg'or, a well known Native woman. Deceased who returned to Toxton only a short while ago after •° visit to Hie South Island, had been suffering from dropsy and of 'ate had not been able to get about much. She was 72 years of agu and leaves ;i family of three sons* Messrs Kero, Harry and Samuel .McGregor and a married daughter residing at Rotorua. The interment ■a ill probably take place at M'atakarapa.

Mr. Thomas Alloly, a very old resident ol Tnuranga, died recently at the age of 95. Air. Allely was born at Newbliss, County Alonaghan, on Uth Jauary, 1835, and twenty-four years later emigrated to Australia- with his young wife.Alter an adventurous life in the Mounted Police Service he returned to Ireland in 1873, but finding conditions far from attractive he decided to go to New Zealand, and landed at Auckland on 4th July, 1374, from the ship Queen of Nations. A month later the family went to Tnuranga where Air. Allely lived until his death. Airs. Allely died some years ago, but five sons and two daughters are living, namely, Mrs. \V. H. and F. J. Allelv, -*f Tauranga, T. C. Allely (Northcote), R. J. Allely (Mount Albert), S. D. Allely (Henderson) Aliss Allely (Tauranga), and Airs. Muir, of Wellington.
