A return of the estimated population of Now Zealand, with dependencies and mandated territory, published in the (lazette to-night, allows males 780,.'582, females 755,718: total 1.540,181).
The estimated population of New Zealand proper at December 3L, 1080, (excluding Maoris) was 723,073 males and (105,230 females. ’flu* estimated Maori population is 31,80!), males and 31,853 females. The population of the North Island is estimated at 052,584 inclmling 03,733 Maoris, and of the south Island, 533,010, including 2020 Maoris. The estimated population of the Cook Islands, Niue, ilc., is 14.451; of the Tokelau Islands, 000; and of Western Samoa, I 1.080.
