BOROUGH COUNCILLOR FINED.
INTERESTED IN CONTRACT. Dunedin, February 7. In tin l Police Court, Mr. H. \V. Bundle, S.AI., found a verdict against Edgar Arnold Fox, who was proceeded against by the Audit Department on three informations of having acted as a councillor of Oamaru borough when In' was disqualified from doing so. Defendant, a member of Gay’s Oamaru Stone Coy., had offered to supply stone to the Oamaru Beautifying Society to erect a wall in Severn Street. The work was taken over by tin' Borough Council and ultimately a contract was let to one Doclierty, who used Gay’s stone.
The Magistrate, held that, while it had not been established that Doclierty had acted as a dummy for Fox, the latter was interested in the contra cl entered into by the borough ami was therefore disqualified. He had acted .as a councillor later, taking part in a disi-nssion mi Doehcrtv’s eonI met. Defendant was fined £ls, with costs. Security was fixed for an appeal.
