THREE JOCKEYS INJURED IN TARANAKI.
K. VOITRE’S SEVERE INJURIES
New Plymouth, February 7.
To sustain a double fracture of both arms was the misfortune of Keith Voitre, the Dominion’s premier apprentice jockey, when a smash occurred in the Moturna Electric Handicap, the fourth race at the Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting yesterday. Three other riders were concerned in the smash, but in only one case were the injuries severe.
In the course of the race, Golden Flower (J. Barry) fell and brought, down C.vrille (K. Voitre), Coal Bag (O. tionlsbro’) and Miss Cobliam (ft. Sandilands). There was a .tei--rible mixup, and when the horses had galloped off, it was apparent that _Voitre was most seriously hurt and Sandilands had a broken collarbone. Barry was bruised and shaken and was apparently suffering in bis back, for he did not ride again, tionlsbro’ was only slightly shaken and fulfilled bis engagement in the next race.
Earlier in the day, Whisogne, ridden bv T. Tito, fell at the last fence in the hurdle race and Vinella, following, fell over the boy, u hose collarbone was broken. TTe was extremely lucky to escape to that extent.
