FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

Tlio monthly inept-in" of tho Foxton Harbour Board was hold in Palmerston North yesterday presided over by Mr. J. Linklaler, M.P. (chairman). Also present were t Messrs M. E. Perrean, 0. Blenkliorn, A. Follow, J. A. Nash, M.P., and the secretary (Mr. R. Rnngiiienea). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. E. Barber, R. Edwards and B. Bryant. Correspondence was received from the Labour and Marine Departments in connection with the declaration of Te Wlmrangi (Mali a wain Heads) as a seaside resort. The declaration of the beach as a seaside resort will enable shopkeep- ' ers in that locality to avail themselves of certain concessions in regard to elosig hours and Sunday trading. The request was made at the instance of the Beach Improvement Committee and it was decided to refer the letters to that body. WDBEING THE PORT.

The Canterbury Steam Ship Company wrote asking whether the board intended to work the Akers dredge when the vessel was brought to Foxton and inquiring what steps •'■pro being taken to improve the fairway. It was stated by the company, that its vessel, the m.v. Eoxton, had lost a great deal of jime on the Foxton-Lyttelton service, owing to the bar' being unworkable on a number of occasions. Proceedings in connection with the deputation were taken in committee. The committee intimated its willingness to pay for the installation. RECLAMATION WORK. The secretary reported as follows upon reclamation work carried out during the past month: — “During the past week we have been engaged in cutting down lupins in seed and placing- them on tlie ocean beach foreshore, preparatory to reclaiming some 30 to 40 acres of sandy wasti) land at present threatening the river and liar with drifting sand. I am hoping that the results will be attended by ,success. As soon as the strip, is cleared, I expect to continue with the work before the lupins begin to sheet their seed. Up to the end of-the week, we have carted 85 loads of lupins from the reclaimed land to the foreshore, which re- , |uires three times as much to complete the "work satisfactorily.” THE GRAB DREDGE. In reporting upon Priestman’s dredge, which it is hoped to bring down to Foxton, the secretary stated that the pontoon had been caulked but at the last flood, there had not been sufficient water to make it safe to float the vessel in l lie Tokomaru stream. round bush reserve. A letter was received from the Lauds and Survey Department in inference to the Round Bush Reserve. The Department reported that its inspector would prepare a report on the matter of fencing this scenic reserve at an early date. The communication ,was received. ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR TREE PLANTING. The matter of acquiring a strip of Native land adjacent to the river at Manawatu Heads for the purpose of tree planting was again discussed, but it was decided to await tlie report of the Marine Department on ‘the proposal before any further steps were taken to acquire the endowment. BEACH CONVENIENCES. It was decided to authorise the Beach Improvement 'Committee to erect conveniences at Manawatu Heads subject to location, plans and specifications to be submitted to the local committee of the Board before commencement of work. GENERAL.

Accounts amounting to £125 10/6 were passed for payment. Tiie secretary was authorised to pay Hie pilot’s salary and to endeavour to arrange an insurance policy against sickness.
