OBSTRUIC’ITEiD AT ROBINSON’S • BEND.
Captain Munro, marine superintendent of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Co., Ltd., visited Foxton yesterday to make investigation in connection with the obstruction to navigation at Robinson’s Bend. In conversation with our representative Captain Munro stated that the company had built the m.v. Foxton specially to work the Foxton port at neap tides and to provide continuous shipping to the port. The river fairway, however, at Robinson’s bond, had silted up to such un extent as to make it almost impossible to reach the wharf without lightening the cargo. Such extraordinary expense could not be continued either by the company or shippers. Unless the obstruction was removed it would take the vessel two tides to -clear the bar outwards, ns the vessel could not leave the wharf until practically full tide to negotiate the bend which meant losing the same tide at the bar.' Captain Munro said he bad interviewed tho chairman of the Harbour Board on the subject and had been informed that work to clear the fairway would be underlaken immediately.
