A. rabbit- inspector's life like the Gilherliian policeman's is not a happy one. He has to climb fences dav after day, push bis way through gorse and other kinds ot noxious growths _jnt to see il a. farmer Ims anv rabbits tucked away on his “covdi” country. Having satislied himself on this point he then has to interview the farmer and explain the best methods of eradicating the post —sometimes to a farmer not always sympathetic toward the Board. Then the approach to some I arm t houses is not always as pleasant as it 'might he for,’ sometimes, numerous anil ferocious canines protect the place. The inspector has ample opportunities of studying the canine temperament and at Thursday's meeting of the Mansiwain Rabbit Board Inspector Barron told members that he did not mind a dog that came straight for him as he was usually soon pacified. WJhat lie disliked was the dog that sneaked up behind and without any fuss simply dug his teeth in. On visiting a Taikorea farm the other day Mjr. Barron encountered such an animal. He was talking to the owner of the property when all of a sudden he heard a rip and found a good sized piece of his overcoat missing and the dog with fangs hared making ready tor a second attempt on a very good waterproof. The inspector was justly annoyed but the properly owner took such action on the dog’s paid as a matter of course and casually remarked, “Oil. he often takes to swaggers!”
