TOWN HALL. As Captain MeQuigg, Thomas Meighan gives one of his greatest characterizations at the Town Hall on Wednesday in “The Racket,” a melodrama of the underworld, adapted from the famous stage play by Bartlett Corniack, a newspa'perman. Hard-boiled and fearless of all elements, Meigban fights the gang leader Nick Scars'i; which part is portrayed by Louis Wo'llieim, one of the most able character actors in motion pictures today. Marie Provost as Helen, the night club entertainer, who is the principal figure of a romance with .John Darrow, a reporter, also gives an outstanding performance. “The Racket” is a colourful as well as powerful melodrama. Its author, a newspaperman, has written a vital drama of metropolitan gang life, taken from his observations and experiences. Usual prices. Many screen productions have revealed the night-life of New York and the Continent, hut it is doubtful .whether there has been a film which has disclosed the every day life o.f modern London 'Society. “The Rising Generation,” which is a first-class B.D.F, attraction to be shown next Friday is a story of English youth and the nightlife of Mayfair and Piccadilly.
