THE MANAWATU MEETING
There was a large attendance at the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting held in fine weather on Boxing Day. The totalisator- handled £51,763 for the day as against £43,999 for the first day last year. Results: — Tokomaru Hurdles Handicap, 1;; miles Mr. R. McMullian’s b.g. Fine Acre (A. A howling gale with drenching rain squalls made conditions very unpleasant yesterday. The totalisator handled £34,105 as against £33,777 last year. Wlon by U lengths each way. Time 1.16 1-5. President’s Handicap, 11 miles: —Hoy lake 1, Ruanui 2, First Acre 3. Wlon by a short head. Time 2.11 1-5. 24th P.N. Stakes, 6 furlongs: — Princess Betty 1, Paganelli 2, Chrysology 3. Wlon by half a length. Time 1.15 1-5. Terrace Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs: —High Society 1, Head Sc-' rang 2, Pa.tearoa 3.
