SEQUEL TO BETTING INQUIRY.
P. AND T. OFFICIALS DISMISSED.

As a sequel to the inquiry held recently by Air. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M., into allegations of betting by members of the telegraph staff of the' Auckland Post Office, six of the men were concerned in the investigations—four operators and two distributors —(received notice this morning that they had been dismissed. The men concerned had terms of service ranging from 15 to 34 years. One was due to retire in 14 months’ time on superannuation.
The six men had denied that they were concerned in the betting allegations, but before the magisterial inquiry opened a number of men in the department admitted that they had made bets. It was announced this afternoon that the matter is to be pursued further before the P. and T. Appeal. Board.
