ATTACKED BY ROOSTER.
CHILD’S DEATH. - As the result of being- attacked by a rooster a week" or-so ago, the IS months’ bid daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Riley, Gladstone Street, Hawera, died in a. private hospital in Hawera on Thursday last. It lias been ascertained that death occurred from the infection arising from two small wounds on the child’s head. On the Thursday prior to the child’s death, Mr. Riley, hearing the child’s screaming, reached the yard where she had been playing in tune to see a large rooster standing by. wounds were found on the head of the child, and had evidently been iniiicted by the rooster’s beak. No immediate ill effects were noticed, but the following morning, an unusual symptou being apparent, medical advice was sought, and the child was removed to the where in spite of every care and attention, death ensued. The question of an inquest was considered, but in view of the medical opinion that, although the injuries inflicted by the rooster were not the proximate cause of death, they were a contributing cause, no inquest was deemed necessary.
