(TOWN JHALL,
Don Juan Francisco de Avendaiio, known only as El Caballero to the Indian peons who loved him because he protected them from the opipresiou of the cruel and avaricious Ramon Torreno, is the central figure of “The Cavalier,” the Tif-iany-Stahl special production featuring Richard Tahnadge, Barbara Bedford and David Torrence, showing to-night at the Town Hall. The Hatred of Ramon Torreno for El (Jabaliero becomes many times magnified by the mysterious stran-. ger’s interference to prevent Carlos, Ramon’s son, from marryingbeautiful' Lucia D’Arquista, whom El Caballero has met as she journeys to the rancho and the day of her hated wedding. There results a clash of wills and swords which makes “The Cavalier” a succession of thrills —duels, abductions, pursuits, last-minute rescues, and all the accompanying action which is considerably augmented by ability of Richard Takuadge to accomplish the seemingly impossible in stunts and feats of skill. The charming Barbara Bedford plays the role of the. unwilling bride, properly I chaperoned by Nora Cecil as her grim aunt, and Oliver • Eekhardt plays the part of the Padre. Da-vid Torrence has the role of Ramon Torreno, and David Mil- is IGarlos, his son, while Tsuuirt Holmes plays a bombastic sergeant of the garrison and Christian Frank is the Torreno overseer, Pierre Gaston. With “Light Wines find Bearded Ladies” (Comedy), & News.' Usual prices. “Hold ’em Yale,” billed for the Town Hall on Monday is a picture with a direct appeal to New Zealanders who are credited with an intimate knowledge of football from infancy. The story concerns a young freshman from the Argentine who goes-to Yale with the idea that Inn can reach the top rung of the ladder by sheer bluff, but finds that “sport” is part of the school’s religion, and until he lights his way to success is regarded as a neglible quantity. He finds better boxers and footballers in Yale than he imagines and goes through months of disappointment until hard practice and many knocks develop in bim a spirit which-he uses to great advantage on the football field.
