AN ILLEGAL LOTTERY.

SURE CLUB MEAIBER FINED.

Wiellington, December 20

An unauthorised raffle by which it was hoped to obtain funds in aid of a club resulted in the appearance in court of Frank Chapman, representative of the Maranui Surf and Life Saving Club, who pleaded guilty. A line of £5 was imposed. The Chief Detective remarked that illegal lotteries were fairly prevalent, but it was not an easy matter to get to those responsible. Chapman was a member of the executive of the club and elected to be charged when the police paid a visit to the clubhouse.
