LATE BISHOP CLEARY.
ALL DENOMINATIONS REPRESENTED AT LAIST RITES. Auckland, December 12. The broadcloth of the. Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist and other Protestant denominations; the scarlet and blue uniforms of Salvation Army officers, the silk hats of Government and civic dignitaries provided the background for a spectacular procession of vested, clergy and purple-robed prelates at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, when solemn pontifical mass was celebrated for the repose of the soul of Bishop Cleary. The church was filled, and a great concourse of people outside followed the progress of the service and the sermon by the Bishop of (Clhristchurch (Right Rev. Dr. Brodie) by means of amplifiers. Even more elaborate than the ceremonial of the requiem mass, which was celebrated yesterday in the presence of 3000 children, was the great service which preceded the funeral. At the Gospel and also at the elevation of the Host, over 130 priests in tbe eihancel held lighted candles. When the coffin was calmed out of the cathedral, the streets of the city were lined by many thousands - of spectators, who saw the cortege pass at noon on its way to the Panmurb cemetery.
