SHANNON DEFEATS FOXTON,

The first inter-club match of the season under the auspices of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association took place on Saturday afternoon when representatives from the local Club visited ‘Shannon for the purpose of meeting the home team. The. weather was somewhat boisterous and marred the play to a certain extent, but nevertheless’ an enjoyable time was spent. Shannon emerged from the competition as winners by 15 games to 9, scores being as follows, Shannon players being mentinoed first: — .

Ladies’ Singles:—Mrs. Moynihan 7 defeated Miss Stevenson 5, Miss Jones 7 defeated Miss Neylon 1, Miss Brown 7 defeated Miss Bindon 0. Mrs. Miller 7 defeated Miss Denton 3, Mrs. Pope 7 defeated Miss Barber 4, Miss 'Sinclair 7 defeated Miss Woods 6.

Ladies’ Doubles: —Mrs. Moynihan and Miss Jones 7 defeated Misses Stevenson and Neylon 3, Miss Brown arid Mrs. Miller 7 defeated Misses Bindon and Denton 5, ■Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Mark 7 defeated Misses Barber and Woods 3.
