Air. Pat Skillen, of Ravensworth Place, is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. Ensign and Aiks. Alatheson, of the Salvation Army, returned from the West Coast yesterday and are under orders to farewell from Foxlon on Sunday, January sth.
The Alinister of Public AVorks (Hon. E. A. Ransom), who became ill at a meeting of Cabinet on Thursday, has now practically recovered, and hopes to be able to resume his duties to-day.
Air. J. Linklater, ALP., who is a member of the Council of the Royal Agricultural Society, leaves to-day for the Royal Show' at Invercargill. Airs. Linklater is accompanying him.
The congregation of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Palmetrston H., farewelled the Rev. J. IT. ;and Airs. Bredin last night prior to their departure for Papalmra to which charge Air. Bredin has been called. Air. Bredin was presented with a suit case and cheque and Airs. ißredin with a travelling rug.
Earl Jellicoe, ex-Governor-Gen-eral of Hew Zealand, celebrated bis 70th birthday on Thursday last. Sir Charles Fergusson, the present Governor-General will attain his 65th birthday on January 17. Lord Bledisloe, Governor-General designate, is 62 years of age.
Lieutenant-Colonel J. L. Frazerhiirst, AI.D., Hew Zealand Aledieal Corps, has relinquished the appointment of Assistant Director of. Aledieal Services, Central Command, and has been appointed Direct oi; of Aledieal Services with the lank of Colonel, vice IC’olonel R. Traey-Inglis, C.8.E., V.D., ALB., who has been transferred •to the Reserve of Officers.
The death took place at liis residence, Fox ton line, Palmerston N. on Tuesday of Air. John Jamieson, one of the fast disappearing band of ealrlv settlers of this district. He was born in the Shetland Islands 75 yenfs ago. As far hack as 1876, be arrived in Hew Zealand and settled in the. Manawatu in 1877. A family of three sons and six daughters are left to mourn their loss.
Air. W. 11. S. Alonrhouse, the son of a former Afayor of Wellington, passed away • quietly yesterday morning at. his home in Upland Road, Kelburn. Deceased, who was horn at (Christchurch on December 2, 1860, was the son of Air. W. Scfton Afoorhouse, who was twice Superintendent of Canterbury, Mayor of Wjcllingtou in 1875, and the first Registrar-General of Lands.
At. the Cabinet’ meeting at Wellington yesterday the Hon. T. At. Wilford’s colleagues took the opportunity of saying farewell to the new High Commissioner, as that was the last meeting of Cabinet at which he was likely to attend. The Hon. G. W. Forbes, Hon. Sir Apirniia Hgata, and Hon. T. K. Sidey made felicitous speeches, and on behalf of the members fo the Minis-, try presented Air. Wolford with a handsome rug, and a similar one for Airs. Wdlford, manufactured in his old electorate.
