TRIANGULAR SHIELD

(CONTEST.

The first round of the Triangular Shield contest was played on Lejvin green yesterday, when the four home rinks put up a good showing, winning their four games, and in some instances with a large margin of points. Light rain interfered with play at intervals throughout the afternoon, and towards the close heavy rain fell, two of the games (being finished under un - comfortable {conditions. Foxton rinks did not make a very good showing, particularly Christie’s team, Which had a good start on their opponents, being nine to three on the eighth bead, after which Clements made good headway. For eight consecutive heads Foxton failed to gain a point —from the se-venth-to the sixteenth beads —their opponents building up their score meanwhile, to ultimately finish with a margin of It) points.

■ X A special general meeting of r members of the Foxton Bowling Club was held in the pavilion last 'evening for (the purpose of giving authority for the carrying out of routine matters, and also the consideration of general business. . The conditions' of play are to include sealed handicaps.

Considerable discussion took place <on the question of the method of deciding the Club’s champion rink for the Centre Champion of Champions contest at Palmerston North towards the end of the season. It was finally decided that the Committee select the tentative rinks, after which the rinks selected are to compete one vvitli the other, each player to keep details of his individual scores against his opponent in eaeh qualifying match, the aggregate scores of each player to indicate his qualification for inclusion in the Champion ririfc. THOMSON TROPHIES. At last evening’s general meeting it was decided that*entries for the Thomson Trophies pairs contest close- on' Wednesday next, that an entrance fee of l/ x be charged, the fee to igo to the Club’s funds. At the Grey town Bowling Club’s green on 'Saturday two of the oldest members, Messrs W. Udy and S. .Haigh, were present and took part in the day’s games. In recognition of their long years of membership and their age, Mr. Udy having reached his ninety-second year and Mr. Haigli his eighty-fifth, Mr. J. iStringfellow, president of the Club, presented them each with a framed photograph of • the two lueinibefcsl
