FOXTON BEACH.

REQUESTS TO BARBOUR,

BOARD

Various matters in connection with the improvement of the beach at (the iManawatu Heads came before the Foxton Harbour 'Board at Palmerston North yesterday. The Beach Improvement Committee wrote asking' for the road on the waterfront, which had been partially washed away, to be repaired and for the road to the beach to be opened up by the use of flax refuse. Permission was also asked for the committee to make a charge to motorists using camping grounds, but' it was decided to for effecting desired improvements to the. site. Another request was that vendors of ice-creams, - etc.,, who did not have shops on 'the beach should be charged for the privilege of hawking. In conclusion, the letter stated that it would ibe desirable for the beach to he declared a seaside resort. It was decided to leave the question of opening up the road to the beach to the local,, committee and to refer the question of repairing the road to the Manawatu County Council. It urns considered that the time was not yet ripe for charging motorists using tire camping yvounds, but it was decided to erect a notice stating that hawkers on the beach would be liable to a chufrge and ,the secretary was instructed to collect the; same.

“I -don’t know why they want ifs to declare the beach a seaside resort,’’ said the chairman, Mr. J. Link la ter, M. : P. “I always thought it was a seaside resort and a popuJar one.”

Mr. M. E. Perreau thought that the reason folr the request was that storekeepers had been fined for selling ice-cream, etc., on Sundays. If file beach was declared a seaside resort this would Ibe quite, legal. The secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps to have the beach declared a seaside resoirt.
