When the invitation came to them from the Society to open the show, it did not take us long to make up our minds to get out into the country, said Mr. Troup. He spoke of the inter-dependence of town and country and referred to the expansion of the metropolitan area which in the future would extend from, the Hutt Valley on the east to Plim•merton on the west. It gave both Mrs. Troup and himself great pleasure lo visit Foxton, and he was sure they would carry pleasant •memories of their visit back to Wellington. AT THE SCHOOL. Mr. and Mrs. Troup visited the local District High School, prior to opening the show. The children were assembled facing the main entrance! and were permitted to sit on the grassy surface during bite speeches. Mr. Hornblow (chairman of Committee) briefly introduced Mr. and Mjrs. Troup to the children. Mr. Troup delivered a very fine and inspiring address which was listened to with marked attention. He said the object of his visit to Foxton was to open the flower sho\V, hut the brightest of all flowfU's was before him in the smiling and healthy faces of the children, included among them were Lillies and Roses and sweet Williams, etc. He said lie wanted them to be good New Zealanders. He knew they all thought that New Zealand was the best country on earth and their own Foxton was the best littlq town in New Zealand—that was 'the right spirit. He then spoke of the qualities required for good citizenship. He urged them to work hard with patience and persistence in the “do or die” spirit; to be enthusiastic in fiber work, because success depended largely upon .enthusiasm; This must be backed up by faith in themselves, and a Higher Power, in tlieir school, teachers and town, and to remember that God placed them li;ejre for'somq definite; purpose. He congtratuiated all connected' with the school on the. fine buildings and splendid environment' and hoped the children would excel in every department of life. He asked-that the children njigh-t be given the rest of the afternoon off to visit the show. This request was granted to the delight of the children who lustily cheered Mr. and Mrs. Troup at the conclusion.

■Mjr. Mason (headmaster) thanked Mr.-Troup on behalf of the school and the visitors were then shown through the class rooms.
