THE SHANNON BURGLARY.
THREE ARREST'S AIADE,
Three ailrests have been made by the police in connection with the robbery at the Shannon Co-op. Dairy Company’s premises on Wednesday night. All three prisoners are young men. Two are residents of Palmerston North and the third, a llax worker, employed at a mill at Afakerua.
The first two made their appearance before the Palmerston North Afagistrate’s Court yesterday and wcjre remanded for a week. Their irallies are Gordon Afax King, butcher, aged 19 years and David Gilchrist, labourer, aged 23 years.
King and Gilchrist were taken into custody on Thursday following upon a search of a house in Cook Street, Palmerston North, where practically all the allegedly stolen goods were found. 'There was an array of articles almost sufficient to stock a small shop. Ties were in evidence by the dozen, also hats, shirts, suits, blankets, rugs, boots and shoes, clocks, cigarettes and chocolates. Their value is estimated at £4O.
The third prisoner, was arrested at Makerua: yesterday. Two of the lads may also have lo face a charge of converting to Ibeii; own use a ear, which was taken from off a stand between 7 and 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening and subsequently found abandoned near Makerua. It is alleged they proceeded to Makerua in this car and from there went on to Shannon in a lorry, which was also used to bring back to Palmerston North. ” ,
