THE £IOO “ALLOWANCE.”
Tn recognition of the “work” which they performed during the session, members of the House of Representatives, in their final legislative enactment, voted themselves an “allowance” of £IOO, but they 'have not yet (received the money. The Leader of the Opposition (Air. (C'qates) and Alessrs J. S. Fletcher (United, Grey Lynn) and R, A'. Wright (Reform, Wellington Suburbs) opposed the grant, and Air. Wright declared that lie would not take it. At its next meeting Cabinet will decide whether ‘the £IOO shall lie paid in a lump sum, or whether its distribution shall be spread over the remainder of. the cuiTcnt financial year. In the event of progress payments being decided upon, members’ “Christmas boxes” will be somewhat smaller than was anticipated, but this will afford them a better ground for looking forward to a bright and happy New Year as they mil have until 31st March to collect the balance of the bonus. —'Post.
