ROAD CYCLE RACING.
HUSSEY WINS FIVE MILE / EVENT.
Consequent on the revival of the local Amateur Athletic Association, a five mile road cycle race was held last evening, the course being around the lOemetei-y block. There were 15 starters, all of whom got. away well from in front of the Post Office. The race was a good one which provided a most interesting finish. L. King, off 40 see. led the field until within a vayd or so of the -finishing post- when Hussey, off virtual scratch, made a sprint to win by half a wheel. Pedersen, a Palmerston North rider who was bunched with King, Hus-sc-y and McCarthy on entering Main Street, annexed third place. Time:13min. 14sec. PRESENTATION TO HUSSEY. At the conclusion of the- race Mr. G. F. 'Smith presented W. Huskey with a handsome silver cup donated by the “sports” of Foxton to commemorate bis win in the recent Palmerston North-Wellington road race. In making the presentation Ml\ 'Smith said there were not many jto'wns, especially country towns, possessing such champion cyclists as Foxton. Hussey’s win -n the big road race was unique in that the champion was only seventeen years of age. Formerly another Foxtoninn had put up a creditable performance in this i-aoe and it was very pleasing to see a fellow workmate go one better.
